Continuing from the previous post abot the #ANGD2015, day 2 is when things get a little bit intense.

Here’s what went down on the second day of the roundtable discussions:

Session 3: ISIS – a brand built by the media?

Panelists: Caroline Faraj, VP of Arabic Services at CNN in the UAE; Dr Abeer Najjar, Associate Professor at the American University of Sharjah; Dr Majid Rafizadeh, President of the International American Council; and Dr Azeem Ibrahim, RAI Fellow at Mansfield College at the University of Oxford in the UK – moderated by Nadia Bilbassy-Charters, Washington Bureau Chief at the Al Arabiya News Channel

ISIS – they’ve created chaos, they’ve killed thousands and yet the media follows them wherever they go- did we (the media) mold ISIS into a brand of terror?

Now how about ISIS and the social media? A good friend of mine – who is also a professor in the American University of Sharjah – describes the relation between mainstream media and the extremist Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) group. She says the notion that ISIS has made social media a powerful propaganda tool is “overrated.”

Session 4: Good Muslim/Bad PR, Bad Muslim/Good PR: How can we get more moderate voices heard?”

Panelists: Sunil John, CEO of Asdaa Burson-Marsteller; Faisal Al Yafai of The National Newspaper; Eissa Bougari, co-founder of 3 Points Advertising in Saudi Arabia – moderated by Hassan Fattah, a Partner at Brunswick in the UAE.
