I am happy to announce that the launch of the Al Arabiya News Global Discussions last week was a complete success!

We invited government leaders, think-tank heads, experts and media representatives all around the globe to take part in the very first edition of the Global Discussions in a bid to understand the different events that have transpired in the Middle East and the rest of the world.

Here’s what went down in the first day of the roundtable discussions:

Session 1: 15 years of the war on terror: much was said, but what was achieved?

Panelists: Nathaniel Tek, regional spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State; Brooklyn Middleton, a U.S.-based Political and security analyst; and Julien Hawari, co-CEO at the Mediaquest publishing house – moderated by yours truly.

Now, what we found out from analysts is that much has been said, but what was been done has not achieved aspired results regarding the “war on terror” in the past 15 years.

Session 2: Cairo Speech 2.0: what should the next U.S. President’s regional policy be?”

Panelists: Ali Khedery, a former U.S. diplomat in Iraq; Joyce Karam, Washington Bureau Chief at the Al Hayat newspaper; Hesham Melhem, Consultant at the Al Arabiya News Channel in the U.S.; and Mishaal Gergawi, Managing Director of the Delma Institute in the UAE – moderated by yours truly
