Julia Gillard… a role model in women leadership and an inspiration to Al Arabiya English’s coverage of Women’s International Day

Sadly, many Arab women continue to face deprivation of many of their basic rights, as well as discrimination and violence; however, this means that women who actually succeed and manage to achieve an outstanding status deserve an even bigger round of applause from all of us, given that they are making it despite all these challenges… and these are the women we hope to shed the light on as we see them as a beacon of hope for generations to come.

I believe it is about time that we celebrate International Women’s Day with a bang. I am happy to announce that the English service of Al Arabiya News has launched a profile-series of amazing women within the region in an aim that it may serve as an inspiration to others to respect and learn from them.

It is also with great pleasure that the said series were inaugurated by the 27th Prime Minister of Australia PM Julia Gillad, who wrote an exclusive column to Al Arabiya News.

I had the pleasure of meeting Former Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard earlier lsat week at an event held at the Australian Consulate in Dubai as an early celebration of International Women’s Day.

Ms. Gillard is a champion of women rights and equality and was in the UAE to participate in the International Government Communication Forum in Sharjah.
